ONE SATURDAY AFTERNOON Tom Mazanec (Inspired by a Don Martin cartoon) Joey arranged the amulet as the old book instructed, said "sufursuporcam" and looked in the mirror. His nose and ears shot out of his head, fur sprouted and his feet almost exploded, to be joined by a large tail. In a moment, he was looking at the reflection of a red kangaroo. He reversed the amulet 180 degrees, and said "sneipasomoh". The feet, tail, ears, nose, and fur evaporated to remnants or nothing. In the mirror was a twelve year old boy. "Joey, are you in your room?" came his mother's voice. Quickly, Joey moved the amulet and spoke the magic word. His door opened and Joey jumped in place to hide the amulet from his mother. "I'm going shopping for a hour or so. Watch the house while I'm gone and DON'T get into any mischief!" She then hopped off, carrying Joey's little sister in her pouch. "Boy, *that* was close!" said Joey to himself, wagging his thick tail in relief.
